Grown-Up Guide

MySafeTherapy Kids is learning and play. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent anything. Its job is to give children words, options and rehearsal before real life needs them.

The six skills

  1. 1. Recognise and communicate feelings.
  2. 2. Understand that mistakes do not make someone a bad person.
  3. 3. Handle friendships and disagreements.
  4. 4. Express boundaries and respect other people's boundaries.
  5. 5. Recognise when help is needed and approach a safe adult.
  6. 6. Discover personal needs and what helps.

Using Companion mode

The child's screen never changes. When you switch the Grown-up Companion on, a side panel appears with notes for the scene on screen: what it is doing, why it is written that way, and two or three questions to ask together.

  • Let the child drive the choices, including the hesitant ones.
  • Read the body check-ins slowly. There are no wrong answers.
  • Ask the questions after the scene, not during it.
  • Switch the panel off if the child finds it distracting. Child-first is the default.

Safeguarding principles

  • Get Help is on every screen and contains UK helplines, including Childline 0800 1111 and 999.
  • Nothing is collected. There is no disclosure form, no sign-in and no messaging.
  • No generative AI, live chat or contact between users. Every branch is written by hand.
  • Progress lives in memory only, and Reset clears it instantly.
  • Children are told plainly that this app cannot send help, and that a real person can.
  • If a child discloses something while playing, thank them, stay calm, write down their words, and follow your setting's safeguarding procedure or contact the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.

Conversation starters

  • "Where did you feel that in your body?"
  • "Which choice felt hardest, and what made it hard?"
  • "Has anything a bit like this happened at school?"
  • "Who is on your list of grown-ups to tell?"
  • "What would you want me to do first if you told me something worrying?"
  • "Shall I tell you about a mistake I made and how I sorted it?"
